This paper explores the power dynamic between generations in regard to environmental destruction in order to assert that current generations have a responsibility to protect future generations from environmental harm and give future generations what they need to overcome challenges that they will face. Steven Lukes’ three dimensions of power and Tracey Skillington’s brief analysis of how his power dynamics apply to environmental destruction were the inspiration for this paper. I explore the intergenerational climate justice problems at stake, the complexities of the three dimensions of power, how those dimensions manifest in environmental problems we see today, and how those power dynamics create a responsibility for current generations to act.
Key words: Power, Climate Change, Intergenerational Climate Justice
